Why I Barely Use TikTok – And What I See When I Do
Nowadays, TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms in the world. Millions of people use it every day. Some scroll for hours, others create content regularly. I have an account, but I don’t use TikTok very often. In fact, I open the app maybe once or twice a week. I don’t post anything. I just watch a few videos when I have some free time, usually at night or after training.
When I open TikTok, I usually see content related to the gym, gaming, or relationships. The algorithm knows what I like, and it shows me videos about fitness tips, workout motivation, game highlights, or couples doing funny or romantic things together. I enjoy this kind of content. It’s fun, light, and sometimes even inspiring.
Gym content is my favorite. I follow some fitness influencers who share training routines, nutrition tips, and before-and-after transformations. Some of them explain exercises step by step. Others show their progress or talk about discipline and mindset. I find this helpful and motivational. It reminds me to stay focused on my own goals.
I also like gaming content. I watch clips from games I play or want to try. Sometimes people share cool moments, funny glitches, or strategies to improve. It’s entertaining, and it helps me relax. Relationship content is another thing I see a lot. Couples dance together, do challenges, or talk about their love life. Some of it is cute, and some of it is just silly, but it’s fun to watch.
However, even if there’s good content on TikTok, I know the platform has a dark side too. There’s a lot of harmful or toxic information out there. People are constantly spreading fake news, dangerous trends, and unrealistic beauty standards. Some videos promote unhealthy habits or give terrible advice, especially to younger audiences. It’s easy to fall into a rabbit hole of negativity if you’re not careful.
What worries me the most is how much time people spend on TikTok without even noticing. The app is designed to be addictive. The short videos, the endless scrolling, and the personalized algorithm keep you hooked. I see many users losing hours of their day just watching random content. They are not doing anything productive. They’re just scrolling, liking, and sharing – sometimes without even thinking about what they’re watching.
Another thing that concerns me is how some users behave. There’s a lot of hate, bullying, and drama. Some people judge others based on how they look, how much money they have, or what they post. Others chase clout and attention, doing things they wouldn’t normally do just to go viral. This creates a toxic environment where being real or respectful is not always valued.
For these reasons, I use TikTok with caution. I control the time I spend on it, and I pay attention to the type of content I consume. I avoid trends that seem dangerous or pointless. I don’t follow creators who spread negativity or false information. I prefer to focus on what brings value to my life – fitness, health, entertainment, and positive relationships.
TikTok can be a fun and useful app if you know how to use it wisely. But it’s important to remember that not everything you see there is true or healthy. You have to filter what you watch and always think critically. Social media affects the way we think and feel, so we should be aware of what we allow into our minds.
Right now, I’m keeping my distance from TikTok. I’m not saying it’s all bad, but I don’t want it to control my time or my mindset. I’d rather spend more time doing things that matter – training, learning, working on my goals, and connecting with real people in real life.
